Why Your AC Coil Freezes Up in a Fort Smith Summer

How a Coil Freezes in 97-Degree Heat

Your evaporator coil gets cold by design — refrigerant inside it runs around 40°F. Warm indoor air flowing across it keeps it just above freezing while moisture condenses and drains away. Freeze-ups happen when that balance breaks: either not enough warm air crosses the coil, or the refrigerant inside runs too cold. Ice forms, insulates the coil, airflow drops further, and the ice accelerates — until the system is a block of ice producing no cooling at all.

The Four Usual Causes
